ABOUT
How Therapy Works
NO LONGER ALONE
Collaboration is powerful.
Remember Mary from the Home Page? Mary had never been to a therapist before and was anxious about revealing her problems to a “stranger.” But she knew that the anxiety and frustration that she felt about work was really beginning to affect her choices and behaviors. Mary knew it was time to do something.
After the first session, Mary was amazed at how easy it was to talk to her therapist. She walked away feeling like a weight had been lifted off her. It required so much energy to hold her feelings in at work that it was a relief to express them.
Mary discovered she was not alone in her struggle to adapt to change at work and that change is a common thing that people struggle with. Mary felt different. She felt hopeful, supported, and validated.
Mary knew that with the help of her new therapist she would be able to better cope with the stressors, understand and adapt to change better, and even make positive decisions that would take her life where she wanted it to go.
For the first time in months, Mary felt optimistic about her future!
LET’S CLEAR THAT CONFUSION
Clarity is the key. Most people who come to therapy feel confused and overwhelmed.
Through exploring your past, your present, your thoughts, and feelings, we can deepen your understanding and increase clarity. Wouldn’t it be great to get rid of that confusion about how you feel, and what to do, and replace it with focus and a clear plan and direction?
In therapy, we blow through that fog and help you get clear on the root of the problem, your own contributions to your life circumstances, and plans going forward. Imagine how psychological knowledge frees you to adopt new ways of thinking about yourself and how to approach problems.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE ABOUT YOUR LIFE?
Therapy produces change and is transformative!
It’s time to take control of your life. As a therapist, I am interested in helping individuals get results. I believe it is my job to help my clients identify and work toward their goals, whether that be decreasing symptoms and undesirable life circumstances or increasing happiness and success.
Over the years of working with people, I have found that they need a little push, some accountability, and support to solve problems and achieve goals. Are you ready to make that journey?
ABOUT MY JOURNEY
I believe that to be a good therapist you should sit on the client side of the table at least once in your life. I went to therapy to process a difficult childhood and resulting adult choices that left me in a state of confusion and unhappiness.
My therapy experience was powerful and transformative. I finally discovered more about who I was and gained more clarity and direction in my life. This experience completely turned my life around!
At the time, I was a career counselor at a university, but I wanted to help people on a deeper level. In 2002 I quite my job and went to Graduate School at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
I became a licensed therapist in 2006 because I wanted to bring that same transformative, life-renewing experience to other people. Because of my background in vocational psychology, I have been able to also specialize in using psychology to create healthier organizations.
My experience spans 18 years in the counseling field and 14 years as a therapist. I currently hold an organizational contract with 3M Corporation, which I have held for 11 years. My areas of specialty are healing from trauma and organizational psychology.
In my free time, I enjoy being outside in nature, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Travel is a big passion of mine. Currently, I have visited seven countries and hope to visit more!
