INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
STRUGGLING TO UNDERSTAND YOUR LIFE?
I want to tell you a story about Hannah. Hannah had recently started having suicidal thoughts. They plagued her at work as she struggled to figure out where they were coming from.
Hannah was afraid to go to a therapist because she knew that she had some dark secrets that she had never talked about. But she couldn’t keep going on like this, missing work, and losing focus in her life. In desperation, she made that first call to a therapist.
As Hannah began to tell her story to her therapist, it became clear why these thoughts seemed to be coming out of left field. Turns out while Hannah was an adolescent she discovered the bodies of her brother and mother after her mother had taken the life of her brother and then her own.
Hannah had tried most of her life to suppress this memory and the subsequent pain that she suffered alone. She remembered her mother’s depression, too, and the shame that was associated with that.
Hannah was so glad that she finally had a place to express her pain and heal. Hannah used to think she was going crazy, but now she understands how things are connected in her life.
Hannah found clarity, collaboration, and change through the therapy process. You can, too!
IT TAKES COURAGE
I understand that it can be hard to seek help. I know that it takes courage to admit that you are struggling, let alone considering talking to a professional about it.
You know you need help, but you are resisting it. This is normal. Most people have difficulty getting started with therapy. They worry about finding the right therapist, what therapy will be like, and if it will really help.
But most of all, human nature is the path of least resistance, which is always to do nothing. The people who do something different, put the effort in, show up for their lives – those are the ones who get where they want to go, even if that is simply reducing depression, coping with anxiety, or facing past trauma.
One step at a time you get where you want to go. This is the way life is.
Every journey starts with a single step.
START INVESTING IN YOURSELF
Your life is unique and has great value. You are worth the effort. Start believing and investing in yourself. If you can’t believe in yourself right now, more reason to come to therapy and take the first step. Repeat after me! “My life is worth it.”
Whatever you are experiencing – depression, anxiety, past trauma – there is hope. You can get better. I see it happen every day with my own clients.
If you are troubled by past pain, I will help you express and heal your pain. Or maybe you just want strategies to get better. When you and I work together in therapy, it is a warm, caring environment where we focus on what your goals are and work toward strategies and a plan to improve your life.
